Equipment for assembly stages of technology first patents for stitch forming devices and feeding mechanisms were issues in the 1850 s and 60 s. First union special sewing machine developed in 1881. By 1900, most sewing process were performed by machine. Mechanization: from hand to machine, operator controls the machine and material. Semi-automatic special purpose machines operators are required to position parts and start the process perform a cycle/operation automatically (ie. buttonhole and buttonsew) Machines perform a series of operations with little or no human involvement. Machines that can fully operate on their own, computer operated. The casting: metal form that houses the internal parts and gears. Bed type: lower surface where material and garment parts lie (pg. Stitch-forming mechanisms: to create stitches, thread control devices, thread guides, tension devices, thread take-up, needles and loopers. Material feeding systems: to move fabric, presser foot, throat plate, feed dogs.
