Document Summary
1960"s - no economic crisis, but the end of the era felt as though a party was over: conservationists rose, women"s movement wouldn"t tolerate the baby doll look. Visionary hippies: rejected conventional values, simulated statiest anxieties, communities were seen as an experience in social organization, they were under the belief that the examples they set would induce change on the rest of society. Involved in protests > especially vietnam war: psychedelic posters. Revolved around drug use and the experience you get when you do drugs. Used the posters to advertise: woodstock. Direct reaction to the hippies: counter revolution by working class youth in england. Began in 1966 and developed by 1967, ended in 1972. Cropped hair, braces, button down shirts, doc martens, levi"s. Rejected slightly feminine characteristics of teddy boys etc. Shaved heads were important > long hair = hippies: advantages during a fight, as no one can grab it.
