Social theory a system of concepts that condenses knowledge about society. Philosophical assumptions about the nature of being. A branch of philosophy that considers the way we understand the nature of reality. Subjective reality (relativist) reality exists out there and acts according to natural laws that are independent of time and context. Realities exist in the form of mental constructions that re time and context dependent. A branch of philosophy that studies knowledge, including how we pursue knowledge. Interpretism the philosophical orientation that the social world should be studied in a similar manner to the natural world. Ideographic the philosophical orientation that the study of society requires research technique specific to understanding the interpretation of meaning. The only source of knowledge is sense experience (empiricism) in there are many sources of knowledge: knowledge is constructed subjectively by people and groups. An approach based on laws or that operates according to a system of laws.
