By 1977, hbo is turning a profit. Hbo later makes it"s own content (and sexy content, at that) Amc, showtime are starting to copy this format. Wgn in chicago adopts a similar model. Showtime, espn, mtv, c-span, f/x all adopt the new model. Tmn founded by phyllis switzer (originally first choice ) Muchmusic had only 200,000 subs at first. Cable fees go to specialty cable channels. In ten years, specialty channel levels go from 5 channels (1988) to 35 channels (1998) Cancon spending also increases massively in this time (22 million to 239 million) And the audience share in canadian specialty channels shoots up as well. In 1996, many channels are the dominant ones in the industry. By 2005, the industry is much more fractured.
