Used in multicamera productions to select video sources, switch between cameras, basic transitions. Keys may be added as layers to display information and images. External key - cutout is filled by external source. Matte key - cutout is filled with generated colour from switcher. Internal key - cutout portion is filled with signal that is doing the cutting. Inverted key - reverses polarity of key, able to see through background/graphic . Chroma key - uses colour for keying instead of luminance. Switcher selects which colour will become transparent. Switchers able to store and recall info from setups. Save info on sources for buses, keyers, background generators, wipe borders, auto trans times, etc. Separate memory banks for different shows and programs, useful for situations with quick turnarounds. Each frame of video is made up of many discrete picture elements (pixels) Changing a shape of an object in the mosaic can be done by subtracting or adding pixels.
