Focus is on become competent in a range of important skills (e. g. academic, athletic, social) Branch: out to find areas of interest. Want to do well and find their place. Male/female differences in types of activities that define competence (hobbies; social; organized sport: and as a result, more differences in shows, boys- ytv type shows, girls- family channel type shows. Kids tend to stay in sections because of program patterns e. g. netflix suggests other similar shows. There is an increasing awareness that life fits into a larger scheme of relationships among individuals, groups of people, other living creatures and the earth itself. Unlike preschoolers who are egocentric, school aged kids think beyond and develop these interests. Personal control & causation; make a difference; have a voice. Live action starts to be more popular as a result (cid:862)(cid:373)ake a differe(cid:374)(cid:272)e shows(cid:863) start to appear: also, fun shows with input ex. Prank patrol: concrete operations not hypothetical (tied to here-and-now)
