In a retail environment: organic growth (contagious, acquisitions and takeovers. In usa they started in arkinsall (pick a medium size town and put a walmart at a major intersection near the highway). In canada, they bought out an existing retail chain (woolco) and used those existing stores to create walmart"s. pg. One failure reason was a lack of sensitivity to the canadian market.
