Mother"s milk is the most important beverage always. The right to feed/nurse her child is always important. Bill clinton was the first to allow nursing on federal property. That basic drink of a human after birth is water. All humans had to drink was water and there was no other available beverage alternatives for our ancestors. Variety of beverages were limited until the agriculture revolution. The increase density of the human population and animals allowed much of the available water and it would be contaminated. Book by tom sanchez called a history of the world in 6 glasses - history of the world on 6 main beverages. (alcoholic, caffeine) They all have one thing in common, each one contains a drug (alcohol and caffeine) The greeks recognized wine in agriculture systems to produce wines in large amounts & flavour. Greeks/romans drank wine diluted (it made water safer)
