Thana form of tourism that has to do with death. Tourism about dark places where bad things happen. Can deal with the underworld, organized crime, mafia. Visits to prison , auschwitz , jack the ripper, battlefields. Thana-tourism typology: fright tourism, grief tourism, hardship tourism, tragedy tourism, warfare tourism, genocide tourism, extreme tourism. Cemeteries: where someone is born, does not tell a lot about the place. But where people die and are buried, the place is significant. Mount pleasant (largest cemetery in toronto, things have been reconstructed in the cemetery to make it attractable. Cemeteries are accounts of people who were buried there. Cemeteries speak to the social and economic conditions during the time individuals were buried. New orleans (bodies are put in mausoleum because of landscape and below ground complications) Paris (# of important cemeteries, jim morrison is buried there, fans of his would destroy and take pieces of it home, security was needed)
