Methods: study areas: ile ife, osun state, nigeria, study comprises, in depth interview of 15 micro entrepreneurs, personal interview based survey of 432 micro entrepreneurs, participant observation, sampling methods, stratified sampling, purposive sampling, analytical techniques. Results: characteristics of respondents: gender 76% female, mean age 42 years, marital status 80% married, mean number of years of schooling 10 years, average household size five people, ownership of business 92% individual business. Typical characteristics of entrepreneurs: internal locus of control, high energy level, high need for achievement, tolerance for ambiguity, self confidence, passion and action orientation, self reliance and desire for independence.
