Finishing and binding: any process that happens after printing and before shipping to the customer. Always work backwards, beginning with the end in mind. Sewing has always been a popular book binding technique. It wasn"t until the 19th century that other forms of binding (binding with wire, hot glue, etc. ) became possible or popular. Die-cutting: used to create cuts that are not straight, the steel die is like a cookie cutter, can be done both mechanically or by laser. Embossing/de-bossing: used to create depth and dimension, the process molds the paper, allowing designs to be raised or depressed by as much as 1/8 , heat + pressure + embossing die.
