By the 1740s, the mughal empire was losing its grip over northern and central india. In 1739 delhi sacked by an army of afghans and turks. Further raids against the mughals were launched from afghanistan throughout the 1740s. At the same time, local prices and warlords who has once declared loyalty to the mughals were now carving out states for themselves. East india co. concerned about security and sought to increase their military presence couldn"t recruit enough british soldiers, so turned to recruit indians (sepoys) France was indias biggest enemies and the french was establishing a presence in india in 1741- French eic was not privatized, but backed by the french government and firmly under government control, and interests were different than the british eic. French eic lost money and was meant to push british presence in india. French governor in of pondicherry captured madras, handed back to east india co. in a peace treaty of 1748.
