First plastic was celluloid plastic made for artificial ivory, mother of pearl, tortoise-shell, buttons, dickeys, piano keys. Gelatinous syrup: dried to make a tough clear transparent film. Glass plates had to be coated with wet collodion emulsion. His goal was to crystallize baeyer"s mess. After 5 years - eureka moment - turn up the heat and pressure.
