Pearl harbour and the new japanese pacific empire. By spring of 1942 japanese were able to conquer many countries. Japanese has the advantage in the way that it is harder to get to japanese forces because of distance. Japanese had the third best navy, but both first and second best navies belonged to the allied forces (britain and usa) Japanese troops are bound by the bushido code of honour- way of the warrior: death before dishonor, following orders to a t, not suppose to retreat, face death for emperor. Lack of strategic vision; army divisions are disconnected in vision (army, navy) Navy wants to take australia, army does not think this is a good plan (would need troops moved from china, which they did not have) May 1942- plan to isolate australia; seize solomon islands, and port moresby in papau.
