Reading #1: an account of the slave trade on the coast of africa. Ships were built for very tough environments tells of intense sun, wind and rain, violent waves. The ship would get extremely hot and the smoke from the firewood would cause inflammation in the eyes. Temporary houses were built to keep the slaves from escaping overboard. Kings received a portion of the slaves sold on their land. Bonny: a town that slave trading ships would dock at and sell slaves. First island the slave ships go to after selling all of their slaves is the west-indies where they brought sick slaves, due to the fresher air in that area. 40-200 slaves are usually bought by black traders, less than a third were women, most slaves bought were men and young boys. Sometimes slave women would have babies on the ships.
