Imperialism: the rule or control, political or economic, direct or indirect of one state , nation or people over other similar group (diplomacy of imperialism) Colonialism: a subset of the above in which the colonizer seizes direct political control over an area or people for strategic or economic purposes. Often associated with threat of a rival imperial power. Early exploration and conquest comes down to three main factors.
