Fan kuan was a civil servant, amateur painter= leisure as form of contemplation. People are small, show insignificance in the face of nature. New: sense of journey, movement of eye more directed. Nature"s duality, importance of neg space, mist as qi . S song preferred smaller format, more personal and intimate, for specific individual.
