Status of women in u. s media: 2015 study examined 27,000 stories of major us news organizations for three months in. 2014: majority of stories were produced by men except at huffington post, pbs newshour and. Chicago sun-times: men were more likely to report on politics, criminal justice, science, sports or technology, women more likely to write on education, lifestyle, health or religion. Newsroom challenges for women: sexism: women are judged for feminine characteristics and rewarded for getting along with colleagues. Use the right words: media guide to reporting on sexual violence for journalists as well as survivors, femifesto scanned hundreds of canadian news stories about sexual assault and harassment published over the last few years. Interviewed survivors and surveyed journalists for their insights: ask your subjects what words to use. What to do: respect autonomy: ask the survivor how they would like to be described.
