Before the internet, copyright was not really extensively studied. International conventions make it difficult to copyright, copyright in one country can be enforced in another. Copyright needs to be fixed (written down, publish it, film it) if you have an idea for a film and you tell a friend, that is not copyrightable. It is common for one person/entity to own the copyrighted work and another distinct person/entity to have possession/use the work. *note with books, copyright protects the phrases used to express the plot but not the broad concepts underlying the plot. Musical=song/compilations, dramatic=play/movie, literary=book/short story/novel/compilation [the table of contents]/software [the code] artistic=image/picture/painting/sculpture [sculpture example shows that copyright can be 3d] Titles= regular title is not subject to copyright. But something that is original and distinctive will be. Coloured labels for a filing systems= yes this would be copyright protected. The copyright would not be extended to the filing systems.
