Teleology: the study of the finality of what humans are intended to be; seeking understanding in terms of the ultimate goal, purpose or end of something (aristotle) Virtue: habits of excellence which develop when we use our reason to guide our actions. Theoretical reason: the area of reasoning whereby we come to know how human beings are governed by the laws of nature, the laws of cause and effect (kant) Empiricism: knowledge that comes from the experience or from evidence that can be perceived by the senses (kant) Practical reason: moving away from empirical knowledge to the moral dimension that guides human behaviour and defines our moral duty (kant) A priori: categories of knowledge that come before experience. A posteriori: categories of knowledge that come only after or as a result of our experience.
