C zanne (center) with camille pissarro (right) in auvers photograph ca. 1877 abandons the obligation to copy the forms and colours of nature and so expresses a new freshness and direction. Some loved that he used his inability as a strength. Left law to go to paris and study painting. Zola was his friend but he wrote about an artist who could not complete a painting and killed himself because of this, so cezzanne stopped speaking to him. 1861-70 spends winters in paris and summer with family. Suffered academic rejection and was never accepted into art school. Until 1882 he wasn"t allowed into the salon. 1868: portrait of achille emperaire oil on canvas: took it as an insult, he was so bad. He decided to paint what he saw (every time you look, you see a different image) adherent to the visual experience. Never studied, so his work is dislocated and distorted.
