Modernism and the avant-garde (middle of the 20th century) 12 tone row method used for composition. He serves in wwii and suffered from a lot of issues. Shot by an american soldier after the war at some bar. Experimentation with length (one piece is 45 seconds in length) Would make people play in unconventional ways (like plucking or pittacato or the wood on the bow) Every note is signi cant due to the length of the piece. Experiments with silence and sound ( silence is just as important as the notes mindset) He would travel to those places and learn about the musical culture. Have pride and love for one"s country. Folk music is distinct from western classical music. Collective folk music that is representative of your own country. Musical ideas identi ed with a certain country. Percussion: xylophone, snare drum, cymbals, tam tam, bass drum, timpani, piano. Celesta: short piano (used in horror movies)
