Musical name refers to the genre and a style of dancing. Major difference between small group jazz and large ensemble swing music was that swing was little improv when small group jazz had lots of improv. Organized solos that are timed and planned. Lindy hop: hopping from america to england. At the time, we had a switch from farm labour to factories. As you"re doing the same thing everyday, swing music got people want to get up and dance. Dance became a popular thing to combat boring work that these folks were doing. Slight emphasis on beats 2 and 4. The more people know about something, the faster it evolves. Radio and records allowed more people to know about swing/jazz. Unlike classical music where they did not have those, only could do live shows. Once something is recorded, you can"t control who listens to it. Musical exchange between black and white musicians accelerated, largely through recordings.
