NSE 12A/B Lecture 7: Week7Objectives
Document Summary
Week 7 objectives: apply infection control principles in accordance with the standards set by the cno, explain the relationship between the chain of infection and the transmission of infection: Chain of infection: presence of pathogen does not always mean an infection will begin, it occurs in a cycle and depends on the presence of all the specific elements. To stop infection, you need to break the chain. Transmission of infection: the spreading of infection from one reservoir to another, and how it is transported: identify and describe each link in the chain of infection. Potential for it to cause disease depends on: Resident organisms: permanently live on the skin. Ability to enter and survive in the host. Does not need to multiply, just survive. To thrive, the reservoir must provide food, oxygen (or not, depends), water, appropriate temp (usually 35-37*c), appropriate ph (5-8), minimal light. Spore forming bacteria are resistant to dryness.
