Pressure ulcers: entanglement, complications related to immobility. Nerve damage and circulatory impairment: humiliation, anger, fear. Explain to client & family the need for the restraint. Review manufacturer"s instructions before using a restraint. Know agency policy & procedures for appropriate use and monitoring of restraint. Md"s order for specific type of restraint, specific client behaviors for which restraint can be used, & time frame (usually 24 hours) 5 point restraint: cuffed feet, hands, and waist belt. Ambularm: worn on leg/arm that signals when leg is in dependant position.
