Uncertainty was related to treatment appraisal and alternative treatments, professionals" lack of understanding, knowledge, incompetent and insensitive as well as waiting time. Experiences of unmet informational needs, lack of support and follow up, being involved in decision making without being fully informed and mistrust of the health-care system increased uncertainty: feeling uncertainty outlines the patients" experience of uncertainty. Uncertainty is described as an incredible emotional burden and stress, where the participants were constantly alert for unfamiliar symptoms, a worsening of the disease or death. Emotional experiences such as threat, danger, loss of control, stress and avoidance of uncertainty. Strong emotional sensations such as acute and unpredictable fear, loneliness, hopelessness leading to depression and anxiety. Worry and fear about treatment and/or death concerned ineffective treatment are associated with feelings of uncertainty. Worries and limitations in daily life, loss of control, lack of information about their condition. Underlying fear prevented the patients from engaging in daily activities because of anxiety.
