Self-reports are participants" responses to questions posed by the researcher, as in an interview. Direct observation of people"s behaviors or characteristics is an alternative to self-reports for certain research questions. Nurses also use biophysiologic measures to assess important clinical variables. Quantitative research data collection methods are always cast in stone before a single piece of data is collected.
