Take advantage of existing information, which con- serves time and resources. Historical research -relies on available data in the form of written, narrative records of the past: diaries, letters, newspapers, minutes of meetings, records. New data-self-reports, observations, and bio- physiologic measures. Research data can be collected in a highly structured manner: the same information is gathered from all participants in a comparable, prespeci- fied way.
