S/s of uti: frequency, urgency, dysuria, colour/odor changes, hematuria, flank pain, fever. Urine, colour (colourless, straw, yellor or amber), characteristics & amount. Care of catheter for pt w indwelling catheter: clean perineal and first 4 inches of catheter q8h and after. Bm by holding catheter in place and wiping along tube w warm soap & water do not use powders or lotions. Removal of catheter (clean tech) deflate entire amt of fluid from balloon, clean & dry perineum. Monitor for voluntary voiding of normal amts, should attempt to void w/in 6-8h. Mixture within large volume of iv fluids (*safest, *only add to new bags) Injection of a bolus in iv infusion line in intermittent iv access site (heparin or saline lock)
