Dilemmas in our industry: we are still perceived as amateur , the language of producing is still developing and uncommon in canada. In-class lectures on theory and processes: key concepts and best practices, benchmarking and real world examples. 2017-09-06: technical skill development (ie. working on excel, class discussion, attending performances and post-show talks, scenario simulation, applying concepts in course assignments. The producers (project: you will work in assigned pairs for the whole semester 1 performance student with 1 production student, there will be a seating plan to sit you next to your co-producer. Four main choices: do it yourself, hire someone, get it for free, go without. Understanding your context: swot analysis, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, strengths, weaknesses: internal analysis, opportunities, threats: external analysis, performing arts value chain. Inputs: things that go into the arts organization: public funders, sponsors and donors, partners, artistic collaborators (ie. performers, directors, choreographers, production/technical team.
