PHL 366 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Dasein, Martin Heidegger, Thrownness
Document Summary
Angst is a mood, a mode of being. Moods are ways of disclosing what it means to be a human. Dasein (being in the world), every day is characterized by our complete immersion in the world complete immersion = thrownness + inauthenticity. (cid:449)he(cid:374) you"re o(cid:374) the su(cid:271)(cid:449)ay a(cid:374)d so(cid:373)eo(cid:374)e (cid:373)a(cid:374)spreads, that (cid:271)e(cid:272)o(cid:373)es a dis(cid:272)losure. Disclosure is something that lights up + stands out is it possible to have disclosure of the full world? theists say god does that for us. We reference our own set of meanings to understand, say, a red light. Heidegger says being-in-the-world is disclosed as angst. He says anxiety is actually calm or peace things going on in the world only affect you if you let them, making it a care but not a worry that is actually care. Because angst is fear about nothing in particular, you realize there is no way to remove it except by being aware of your own feeling of angst.
