Hb is the synthesis of finite and infinite, temporal and eternal, freedom and necessity, body and soul. Self is the relation that relates to itself. Hb possesses a rudimentary relation (synthesis) relata, this is still not a relation relating t itself. That feature implies an active managing of the relata, not just possessing it. Hb is not born with a self. Always in process of becoming, sustaining a self. We confuse the self with ordinary, static things that have clearly defined properties. Goal of hb is to become authentic self (the single individual) Can always strive for higher degrees of authenticity. Active process of relating the various relata that are part of hb (finite and infinite, body and soul) To be aware of these tensions, have self awareness.
