What is existentialism: a philosophy or way of life that questions what it means to exist, provides us with a structure for being able to tolerate negative states of mind and not being overwhelmed by them. Mortality: coming to terms with our nitude, we repress our feelings of mortality because it"s another unknown. We convince ourselves that death is something in the future: illusion of identity. I try to convince myself that i am this or that type of person. Reasons: to t in, align ourselves with some type of group/career path, keep us from feeling uncertain. But our identity is in a state of ux. Stages: midlife and teen years: individuality. Existentialists: individuality" of mass culture is bogus. God: for better or for worse, the god" question continues to haunt us, despite our nitude, we sense something far greater than ourselves, kierkegaard and dostoevsky: Without faith we are doomed to lead empty, aimless lives.
