Document Summary
Goal: separate truth from error among my beliefs (opinions). In other words, identify what i actually know and what i merely believe (without knowing it). Note this consequence: albert knows that the earth is flat implies that the earth is flat. But the earth is not flat, so albert does not know that it is. When you know something, your belief is not just accidentally true. What we want from knowledge is the fact that we know things. Belief: when you believe something you take a proposition/statement (= something that is either true or false) to be true. One that guarantees the truth of your belief. When you know that you have a reason that guarantees that your true belief is true, you are certain. Descartes wants to identify certain and indubitable opinions (at 18); that is, beliefs with regard. Belief and knowledge in the meditations to which he has certainty.
