Middle class cared more about top of pyramid (power sharing, recognition, belonging) as opposed to bottom (survival) but economy makes it so it is survival needs. Depends on culture: 53% of usa citizens list themselves as middle class middle age. Bourgeoisie= town dwellers , typically the merchant class; some professions today: business managers, senior civil servants, professionals people with university degrees, townhomes, fairly secure jobs: willingness to delay gratification for a bigger reward (education, holiday, retirement). If i sacrifice now, i can reap the benefits later. If you"re upper class there"s no delay in gratification you can get whatever you want now! The anxious middle 23% afraid of losing it all. Values: family, material goods, faith, country, the future. Low taxation (at least as low as possible)
