A good theory builds on exising research and invokes as few new concepts as possible. A good theory must be testable any theory that you can test runs the risk of being proven wrong. However, without the capacity to test a theory, you can never know if it is right or wrong. Infants fuss and cry unil their urges are met. As children age, the ego develops to ind ways to saisfy the id"s desires without relying on others. Between 3-6 years, boys" sex insinct focuses on the mother. Fearing castraion from father if discovered, boys repress these urges and idenify with their fathers, taking on board the fathers" values as the superego. According to freud, between 3 and 6 years, girls also undergo a similar experience. However, because girls have less reason to fear their mother (they have no penis to lose) the process doesn"t work as well. Women end up as less moral than men!
