Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes and how they are affected by an organisms physical state, mental state and external environment. 3 levels of a person: brain level neural transmitters, genetics, person level emotions, thoughts, ideas, personality, group level peer group, family, culture. All three levels operate at once in collaboration with one another. We understand very little about our own brains. Reactivity if people know they are being studied they act. Cause & effect things have many causes. Person had to stay in a room and each time they got an answer wrong they would receive a fake electric shock. The person would respond stressfully but be forced to continue. Perception: active, influence by prior experiences, expectations and schema. There is so much information coming into our sensatory system at one time that we automatically select what we want to pay attention to.
