Spotlight e ect: tendency to think people are paying more attention to us than they actually are. Illusion of transparency: we think that people can tell what we are feeling more than they actually can. We have a tendency to see ourselves in good light. How does this a ect our social surroundings: Refers to the sum total of beliefs that people have about themselves. Made up of cognitive molecules called self-schemas. Self schemas: beliefs about oneself that guide processing self-reliant information. Mental set of representations help us interact to the world, attend to and remember things that t in our world view. Self referencing: we tend to retain information if it refers to ourselves. Actual self: who you really are ought self: who does society want you to be ideal self: who you desire/ strive to be. Discrepancy between the 3 selves can impact your self esteem.
