Social psychology: study of how people influence others" behavior, beliefs and attitudes for good and bad, humans are highly a social species. Threat of social isolation can lead us to behave in self destructive ways and impair mental functioning: brian scans: being cut off from social contact hurts. Evolutionary perspective on social behavior: conformity, obedience and many other forms of social influence become maladaptive only when they are blind or unquestioning. Mass hysteria: outbreak of irrational behavior that is spread by social contagion, collective delusions- people simultaneously come to be convinced bizarre things that are false. Attributions: process of assigning causes to behavior, some are internal (inside the person) and external (outside the person) Less likely to commit if we are in the situation ourselves or encouraged to feel empathetic towards observing: commit when explaining other"s behavior, invoke situational influences because aware of situational factors effecting us.
