Document Summary

A field of study that related behaviour to bodily processes, especially the brain. Primary focus on the central nervous system. Main goal of study is to understand behavior and experience in terms of their biological substrates. Also known as behavioral neuroscience, psychobiology, physiological psychology, biopsychology. As disease progresses, individuals begin to lose more and more brain tissue. Hallmark of the disease is the accumulation of amoloid plaques. Amoloid is a general term for protein fragments. They are hard, insoluble, and the build up. Neurofibulary tangles are twisted fibers inside of people brains cells. Tangles and plaques affect brain tissue which affects brain processes. Generally nerve cells that are damaged, do not come back although there are certain areas of the brain which are capable of producing new nerve cells. This is called neurogenesis which was discovered through stem cell research. The loss of neurons in the hypocampus is correlated with memory.
