Psy (cid:886)0(cid:884) lecture (cid:885): the study of adult development and aging: research. Methods: dependent variable: what the experimenter measures; changes as a result of the, experimental design. Disadvantages: confounding of age and cohort effects, do(cid:374)"t k(cid:374)o(cid:449) a(cid:374)(cid:455)thi(cid:374)g a(cid:271)out i(cid:374)-between ages. E. g. A test for a certain age maybe valid but it may not be for another age group: selective survival: older groups are a subset of what the group was like when young. The more cautious/happy people are the ones who survived to old age: problems with the extreme age group design. The young age group is 18-22 years old, the old age group are seniors in retirement homes, there are no in between. Problem: 18-22 years old have 4 years of different experience and the retirement homes could have 30 years of experience differences.
