PSY 402 Lecture 7: PSY 402 - Lecture 7 - November 13
Document Summary
Emotions and feelings, regulation of emotions and feelings, and attitudes and presentation relate to personality. Murray - an individual"s personality is an abstraction formulated by the theorist and not merely a description of the individual"s behaviour. An individual"s personality refers to a series of events that ideally span the person"s lifetime. Not a real thing, just theorist to participant. To get personality, need to observe them more than once since on one day something bad could have happened. Observe over different times and different situations and contexts. Idea that personality encompasses your physical, psychological and spiritual, not just one aspect of you. Big part of your personality is how you respond to things in the world, have to consider context around you. Pervin - personality is the complex organization of cognitions, affects, and behaviours that gives direction and pattern to the person"s life. Like the body, personality consists of both structures and processes and reflects both nature and nurture.
