PSY 505 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Personal Construct Theory, Man Man, Homo Economicus
Document Summary
Affect, behavior, cognition- the abc"s of psychology. Focused on the cognitive process and how we think about situations/interpret events. Man is a scientist: cognitive theorists though that we approach the world in a way in which a scientist approaches a experiment, Life can be summed up as formulation and testing of hypotheses. Depending on the result on the hypothesis we reject, modify, or keep it. Reflective of the humanistic approach believes in free will vs. determinism, more towards free will, we are in charge of ourselves, our development, and personality. The past does not determine your future, the now and future is more important. The interpretation of events is more important then the actual reality. E. g. if you think your parents are mean to you that"s all that matters, whether they are or not. We are very much in control of behavior. There is no reality outside of our own interpretations.
