To create low-WHR images, people often narrow the waist, but then if you do
nothing else to a persons image except narrow the waist then you also which
decrease their BMI, making them appear to be thinner. So, a preference for low
WHR in studies using this technique may really be a preference for low BMI.
In this study they:
Created more realistic stimuli by measuring real women's bodies at diff places to get
an idea of what a female body is actually like and then added the dimensions to a
computer program to create a 3D animated model of a woman - so a woman with
realistic body proportions with computer-modeling.
This allowed the author to vary BMI and WHR separately

40 Polish men (38 heterosexual, 1 bisexual, 1 declined to answer) were asked to
scroll through the combinations of BMI and WHR to make the image as attractive as
possible.
The WHR selected as most attractive, whatever the BMI, was approx. 0.7 - had a
mean of approximately .7
And this is seen across culture so a WHR of 0.7 seems to be most attractive and that
health whether the BMI was 18.5, 21 or 25

In this case they Obtained measurements and photographs of 10 women undergoing
cosmetic surgery to remove some of the fat from their body and move it to their
butt

The reason why they chose to look at the sample of women is because this
particularly surgery on avg doesn't change your BMI - it changes your body shape so
it'll take weight from your hips and add to your butt so the weight won't change but
your body shape will
The photos were given attractiveness ratings by men from:
o New Zealand (undergraduates)
o Cameroon (hunters and subsistence farmers)
o Indonesia (villagers)
o Samoa (fisherman, farmers, labourers)
And they were from a range of diff countries and lifestyles
