Inattention: no attention to detail, careless mistakes, not listening, can"t follow instructions, trouble organizing, avoidance of things that take mental effort, loses things, easily distracted, forgetful. Hyperactivity/impulsivity: fidgets, squirms, gets up, runs, climbs, trouble playing quietly, excessive talking, blurts out answers, trouble waiting turns, interrupts. 6+ of these, present for 6+ months, significant impairment present in 2+ settings, symptoms not occurring only during course of schizophrenia or other disorders, but can occur within autism. Subtypes include combined, primarily inattentive and primarily hyperactive impulsive. Prevalence is 5% in children, 2. 5% in adults, boys > girls (2:1) with gender expectations impacting rates; girls = inattentive and have anxiety and depression, boys = hyperactive, aggressive and antisocial. Pre-school: highly demanding, always on the go, noncompliance, temper tantrums, sleep problems, motor and speech delays, disruptive, demanding of peers, noisy, talkative, behind in academic readiness.
