The analog to faith in human relationships = interpersonal trust between people (e. g. aa groups) Reallocation of blame and removal of shame occurs later in life when we look back at our childhood. Freudian model was thought to be deterministic (it happens to you and you can"t really do anything about it. Humanistic side = people are different from animals (sex, aggression, appetite) natural tendency to improve. Existential side = humans are born with the capacity to have the choice to be good/bad + bear the responsibility.
