Offers frame work for working with marginalized people which leads to change with emphasis on value based work and forging alliances. The methods are always changing depending on social context. Is one alternative to individualistic psychology typically taught and practiced in high income countries. It emphasizes analysis and intervention other than individual and their interpersonal context. It is concerned with how people feel, think, experience, and act as they work together, resisting oppression and struggling to create a better world. Focuses on social issues, social institutions and settings that influence groups, organizations. Started being popular after wwii: before, everyone though they were moral flaws or biological problems, after war people had ptsd.
