Will study the pattern of psychological characteristics that differentiate each of us from others and lead us to act consistently across some situations. 4 important personality theory topics: structure- the building blocks of the theory. Hierarchy- units of analysis that measure levels of functioning (ex. best friend, good friend, acquaintance, facebook friend: process- the psychological reactions that change dynamically/ the motivational aspects of a thoughts, emotions, and motivations change constantly theory. What is the cause of motivation in the theory? (ex. biological drives, anticipation of future events, level of consciousness/attention/awareness, to enhance one"s self: growth and development- personality development over time (past, present, future) What patterns of development do we all share? (ex. puberty, school, temperament) What factors cause individual differences?- every environment is different. Both, but to what degree? some of our own experiences seem to be more influencing than others- how you interpret situations is extremely important.
