And when this deviates from the population norm, Intervention (labels and assistance) become helpful or needed. Chuck is a 45 year old family man recovering from alcoholism. Since he was a kid he would justify heavy drinking with the argument that his father died young, so he probably will too, and he might as well enjoy life. Chuck was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver when he was 40 meaning his liver was slowly dying and being replaced by scar tissue, leading to intense swelling of his stomach.
