Other things to do, change of interest, excessive pressure, dislike of coach, failure, lack of fun, overemphasis on winning. Lack of teamwork & concerns about ability were impt reasons to females. Deeper motives: perceived competence, goal orientations, intrinsic motivation. Low perceived competence, tend to focus on outcome goals (therefore more extrinsically motivated), less self-determined forms of motivation, under stress (competence breeds confidence; higher competence is most likely because it"s fun) Teach children to evaluate their performances by their own standards of improvement to enhance their self- perceived abilities; create task-oriented motivational climates (for internal locust of control); foster self- determined behavior via autonomous competent coaching strategies; reduce stress.
